Once again there has been another rock slide that had the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 closed near the state line between North Carolina and Tennessee between mile marker 450 & 451.  Local news reported the first slide took place near the end of January followed by a second slide at the beginning of February.  At first, it was believed that the interstate would once again be closed for some time as the boulders were the size of small cars.  The good news is they have already cleared one lane of traffic and the roadway is back open although you can expect some delays getting through…

Folks coming from the North Carolina to stay at Smoky Mtn Golden Cabins may want to plan accordingly or look for an alternative route.  We expect this one lane to be shut down for some time as they have to go up and make sure the mountainside is safe and clear of falling objects before the highway will be completely back open.
