Wears Valley, Tennessee. On the Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park you will find Gatlinburg, Tn. Near the other end is Townsend Tn. If you travel up the mountain from either of these two towns and just outside of the park you will find a valley called Wears Valley! Wears Valley is surrounded by mountains and about 4 miles long and a mile wide. Give or take, like a lot of mountain area's, there is some debate as to where it starts and ends! The main road in the valley is Wears Valley Road (route 321). What make Wears Valley a highly sought after part of the Smokies is it's close proximity to the more well known area's. What makes it popular with the local folks is that it has not changed much in recent times! The valley is small and quaint revealing much of it's flavor from yesteryear, dotted with small farms and rolling pastures! The valley is full of horses grazing, small farms and speciality shops!

Antique Shopping: The recent down turn in the economy has taken it's toll on some of the local shops. But you will still find a nice selections of stores ranging from Gift shops, antique shops and speciality crafts and shops.
Gift Stores. Almost every shop in Wears Valley carries gifts, trinkets and collectables! Some are brand new and some have been in the valley for many many years.
River Tubing. If you travel back down the mountain towards Townsend, you can't miss the two tubing outlets on either side of the roadway just as you cross the river. One side is green, one side yellow. It looks like the yellow side is adding a brand new bathroom and changing building! There is plenty of parking and the rates are right! You will enjoy the pleasent slow siding little river as it travels down towards Wayland!
Horse Back Riding: Here too the horse riding places have been closing up, changing locations and keep track of where they are this year is a full time job! It is safe to say that if you travel towards Townsend and Cades Cove you will see at least 2 or 3 places that offer horse back rides!
Grocery Store - our new grocery store has opened. When I visited I didn't see any meat, produce or dairy products. The store is full of dry goods, snacks and sodas!
Pigeon Forge where there are many Great Restaurants It is a good idea to give the restaurant you intend on visiting a call ahead to make sure they are still in business and at the same location. Our guide is full of top rated Pigeon Forge Restaurants and I'm sure you will see many names you will know!
